Well, yesterday my baby sister graduated from high school. It is still weird and I can't understand how the time flew by! I have been out of high school for almost as long as I was in high school! My little Nashy-poo is all grown up!
I am here in Lead with my family. My mom leaves for Annapolis Wednesday to go to my older brother's graduation from the Naval Academy. Shelby-Wayne, his fiancé Heidi, and Bodi are flying back next Monday with my mom. Then the celebration begins. Heidi and Shelby-Wayne are getting married on the 31st of this month. I just can't believe it!
While I am here this week, Seth is starting to drive with the company. He hasn't been able to start driving yet because they have not had a load that needed to go to North Dakota since he was officially hired. One of these days we will get him going on the road. I am just glad that I am occupied with my family for the first time that we will be apart for two whole weeks. It will be interesting, that is for sure!
I recently had a near death experience that I would like to share with you. We have a cow and a bum calf that we are trying to pair up. The cow recently lost her calf and has been very stressed. This causes the cow to be very woofy and crazy. It takes a lot to get her in the head catch so that we can get the calf to suck off her. It takes two people to get her in because one person has to run the head catch (Seth) and one has to chase the cow down the alley (me). I can usually get the cow down close to the chute but she freaks out and tramples back through the alley. The other day I had her close to the chute but she wouldn't get her head all the way through. By this point, she was too far away for me to reach her to hit her with the hot shot so I was reaching over the wall. I had my body balanced so I could just reach her butt when I reached just a little too far and toppled, head first, into the chute with her. I was so scared that I had scared her and she would trample back on top of me. Seth couldn't move or make a noise or he would have scared her back. I have tried to jump out of that alley without using the gates and I have never been able to before. Somehow that day I grew muscles and was able to spiderman up and over the wall. Now I am bruised all over but it was definitely an experience! Seth called me today and the calf recently died. We have no idea why or how but all our time and effort into this pair just didn't work out. That is how ranching goes I guess!
Hopefully I won't have another experience to tell again. Maybe next week will be more exciting!
